Plugging in with your local library

Ah, libraries. How wonderful it was to visit them, escaping to the different worlds that so many authors created for their readers. Although they have not fully reopened for having visitors inside due to COVID-19 precautions, you can browse through what is available at the library and place an order that you can pick up! It’s a way to get your books in a fast-food manner, which is pretty funny to think about.

If you aren’t necessarily a lover of books, there are other things that the library can offer to you as well such as “Cats & Coffee,” a virtual zoom meeting for cat and coffee enthusiasts to enjoy each other’s company and relax! There are many fun events like this that can be found on the Henderson Libraries website on the front page.

Or if you are a busy parent who can’t seem to keep your children occupied while  homeschooling, there is also a children’s section that offers book recommendations, downloadable activities, an online learning program, and more! They also occasionally offer fun ways to get out, such as a “Drive-In Storytime,” in the parking lot of one of your local libraries where you tune in to listen through your car’s radio.

There are many events of various kinds and times that you can see  on the calendar provided on the Henderson Libraries website. There are seriously so many different tabs to explore on their website.  To get to know what all is on offer, such as all of the different websites where you can easily access books from the library online, all you need is your library card. This makes keeping up with your favorite authors easy or even just to enjoya new casual read! The library also has its own blog that discusses a variety of crafts you can do from home, book clubs you can join, kits available for pick-up, and more. A majority of these events and resources are free with a very small amount costing anything.

Taking some time to attend some of the events they offer, checking out some books, or reading e-books online is a wonderful way to support the library during these difficult times. Also it is definitely nice to do something besides sitting at home watching Netflix rewatching the same stuff. There’s so many options- whether you enjoy hardcover books or online audiobooks, go check it all out sometime!
