"In Pursuit of Legacy"

Angelica Dator

The beauty within the crumble

Is the best part of any perceived disaster

From the ruins in Athens

To the grandest of sculptures

Residing in famed Italian cities

Like Florence

Milan or Venice

I feel the growth

Within each etch or carving

I feel the change

These distant echoes

Or marks of a past time

Allude to the start of

The prominence of things

Like that which of art

The beauty of self-expression

Carefully crafted artistic creation

The prominence of life

Nothing feels better than

Leaving your mark on the world

A replica of a part of yourself

Whether it may be

An expression of who you are

Or how you felt

At the time of you starting

Something new

After all these years

I think I finally understand

To some extent

The feeling of going back

To other times

Perhaps simpler times

Of wanting to go back

To such idealized times

There’s just something about

Wanting to seek to do something

That’s not been done before

To feel an inner state of euphoria

To feel that true peak of emotion

Is what might very much well be

Ultimately worth living for
