"Dreaming of Clementine"

Angelica Dator

During my beloved pastime

I dream of Clementine

What has she made of herself?

What is she up to?

I dream of Clementine

Unmistakably that’s all I see

She’s all I see

A mosaic of memories

That continue to haunt me

Nothing feels the same anymore

Nothing will be the same anymore

I make no sense in particular

I think that is the point

To emerge with a revival

In the midst of this mess

To make something worthwhile

In the presence of this mess

Constantly fogging up my mind

I metaphorically knit stitches

On everything that I wanted to happen

But did not

Of everything that I still want

But understand why it was not

Meant to be

I dream of Clementine

To reassure myself

I’ll find myself again

And keep finding myself

Again and again

I dream of Clementine

Somehow I realize

In the midst of it all

Clementine is me
