Jaylon Woolfolk

Yasuke, the first African American samurai. Brought to Japan as a slave, Yasuke’s size and physique peaked the interest of the samurai army. He dedicated his life as a loyal bodyguard and servant to Lord Nobunaga in the Edo period of Japan.

 
 

After becoming victorious in multiple battles against the warring states, Mitsuhide's troops surrounded the Honnoji Temple, and in the melee, Nobunaga was wounded.

About the Artist

Jaylon Woolfolk is a fourth year undergraduate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was previously a graphic design major for three years before finally deciding to switch to a concentration in photography. He entered the photography field to explore more of his interests as both graphic design and photography are similar conceptually, which he finds to be extremely fascinating when combined.
