The New City

Laila Kayyali

steel:

now an

upward

swarm.

iridescent

with unnatural

life.

  you: little,

 timid,

drifting,

carried

through

space for seconds,

nervous when

in flight.

sigh

and to the east

  you look

 in mirrored windows

  at the sun’s

red reflection,

 setting.
